
German reunification after 30 years topic of virtual program on Oct. 27 to discuss this month’s 30th anniversary of the reunification of Germany is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27.
Hosted by the World Affairs Council of Tacoma (WACT), the virtual program features Johann JK Reusch, associate professor of history and global studies at the University of Washington Tacoma. His talk is on Germany After 30 years of Reunification:
Challenges at the End of the Merkel Chancellorship. The talk will address the social and cultural challenges faced by Germany at the end of the Merkel chancellorship such as the rise of populist and extremist subcultures, deepening parallel societies, and failing refugee and immigrant integration.
Reusch has published on German sociocultural Issues and nation building. He is currently working with German researchers on a project to assess the effects of public education on social transformation in Germany.
The WACT is presenting the complimentary program in partnership with Wunderbar Together USA 2020 and the World Affairs Councils of America.
The virtual event is open to all, with registration available on the WACT website. Attendees will be given the opportunity to ask questions following the talk.
